The Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale, IL is sporting a QR code in its profile picture. I like the idea as it makes the most out of the limited space Facebook allows for a picture.
Two other newspapers using this technique include: AZCentral.com and The Honolulu Star Advertiser.
Have you spotted any QR codes popping up in Facebook profile pictures?

Check out AZCentral.com’s Facebook profile pic featuring a QR code. Just think of the possibilities!
Having a “QR Code of the Day” gives users a reason to come back each day to scan the code and reveal a surprise. And what might that hidden treasure be? A coupon, a behind the scenes video of the staff, a prize, the start of an ongoing scavenger hunt or contest or…..
What are your ideas?
Thanks to @ChrisSnider for this find. He’s got a great blog about “Online media, innovation and the future of journalism.”

Welcome to Social Media Scraps!

Here you'll find various uses of social media that inspire me -- things I want to re-purpose or implement later when the timing is just right.

And if I can inspire you then all the better! Please introduce yourself and discuss your ideas in the comments. I'm anxious to brainstorm with you!

Who am I?

I work in the newspaper publishing industry (this blog is for personal use only and is not affiliated with my employer), and am highly intrigued by the ways newspapers, other types of media, and completely different industries are incorporating Facebook, Twitter, etc. into their communication and marketing strategies. I've also recently become fascinated with QR codes.

But who am I really?

I love hot pink, cotton candy lip gloss, dancing like no one is watching, and currently turning my radio up to Katy Perry's "Firework." I've recently started hula hooping for exercise, enjoy polka dots and I find joy in the simple things in life.

Now, back to being professional. Thanks for stopping by!
